A. Vincent Ward (1918-1994) was an uncommon man and an extraordinary Rotarian. He joined the Rotary Club of El Paso in 1968 under the classification of Paint Manufacturing.
The Rotary ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise offered Vince a natural outlet for his personal beliefs to live right and do right by his fellow citizen.
In his 26 years as a Rotarian, Vince significantly influenced the Rotary Club of El Paso's direction and helped shape its character.
To his credit, Vince started STAR (Special Training in Action in Rotary) an indoctrination program for new members which is now widely used throughout the Rotary world.
He also developed SPUR (Special Training for Understanding Rotary) to compliment STAR. He helped organize COPPER (Council of Past Presidents, El Paso Rotary).
As District Governor, he introduced RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) to the District which enhances youth leadership training internationally.
Vince had a deep love for Rotary and the Rotary Club of El Paso. He believed that living Rotary ideals could make the world a better place.
He was modest in manner and quick to laugh. Without a doubt, Vince lived an exemplary Rotary life.
It is richly fitting that his name be memorialized through the Vince Ward Fellow.
